The 5 Most Important Steps for Improving Your Google Ranking

Follow These 5 Steps to Sustainably Improve Your Google Ranking and Get More Valuable Visitors to Your Website for Free

How do I get more visitors to my website? – Is a question frequently asked by website owners.

There are many ways of doing so. One of the best known and most effective ways is to improve your own ranking on search engines.

Once you have successfully improved your ranking and your website appears higher up for the relevant keywords, you will automatically receive new, interested visitors through Google and other search engines.

But how? – Follow the following steps and you will be significantly closer to your goal of a successful google ranking.

Step 1: Find 3 to 4 Good Keywords

Select 3 to 4 good keywords that you want your website to be found with through search engines.

The selection of these keywords is crucial, because all other measures you take rely on them and are hard to change later on.

But what makes good keywords? How do you know you have chosen good keywords?

For each of them check whether the following criteria apply:

The keyword is relevant for the target audience of your website. The keyword is frequently searched on Google and you have a chance to appear among Google's top 10 results for this keyword.

Relevance, search frequency and positionality – your keyword should fulfil all three of these.

The easiest way to research this is Google's free Keyword-Planner. All you need is a free Google account.

Limit yourself to 3 to 4 keywords initially. That makes the task manageable. The first step is only about optimising your home page. 3 to 4 keywords are enough for this.

Choose keyword combinations instead of single words. These are searched for less frequently, but positionality will be better. Only if you are able to position yourself at the top of the Google results with keywords, will you stand a chance to gain visitors. Keyword combinations therefore are a better choice.

Step 2: Incorporate Your Keywords into the HTML Title of Your Home Page

The home page is the first page that visitors will land on when they visit your website. The HTML title is the headline of this page. It counts a lot in terms of Google rankings.

You can adjust it in the editing setting in your website building tool. Make sure that your 3 to 4 keywords are included in the HTML title of your web page. This is an example of how you could do this:

"MyWebsite.com – Keyword1, Keyword2 and Keyword3"

Step 3: Include the Keywords in the Meta Description of Your Website

The Meta description is a short web page description. It is also very relevant for Google ranking.

Any good website building system will let you edit the Meta description of your home page.

Take the 3 to 4 keywords and incorporate them in your Meta description. This is an example of how you could do this:

“On our website you will find tips and information to Keyword1, Keyword2 und Keyword3.”

Step 4: Use the Keywords in the Headers of Your Home Page

The headers of a webpage also have strong relevance for Google ranking. That is why your 3 to 4 keywords should appear in the headers of your home page.

3 to 4 keywords are often quite hard to incorporate in one single header. That's why you should distribute them across several existing headers as appropriate.

Should your webpage only have one header, you could add one or two sub headers to make up for this.

Step 5: Use Each Keyword 2 to 3 Times in the Text of Your Home Page

If you want excellent Google ranking, you should include enough text content in your home page.

That is how Google registers that you have sufficient content to offer visitors. What's more you can use the text to incorporate your keywords on the webpage.

You should have more than 400 words at least; generally the more, the better.

The text doesn't have to be visible at the top of the webpage, but it should be there regardless.

Now just include each of your 3 to 4 keywords at least 2 to 3 times in the text of your home page. You can also do so in variations, e.g. in singular and plural, or using slight variations.

It is important that every keyword appears more than once in your text. That is the only way Google can register that the text is relevant for the keyword in question and only then will Google improve the page's ranking for this keyword.

Conclusion: 3 to 4 Good Keywords Must Be the Recurrent Theme of Your Home Page

If you manage to implement these 5 steps, you will have each of your 3 to 4 keywords distributed across your home page in such a way that Google will consider it highly relevant for these keywords.

After 1 to 2 weeks at the latest your website should be registered in the Google index and you should be able to notice the effect of your actions.

To do so, use the 3 to 4 keywords in a Google search and check where your website ranks.
